New Benz in Downtown Cairo

The HWS – Egypt Short Course is a one credit course which will be taught by Professors Stacey Philbrick Yadav and Vikash Yadav. The three week course on the Political Economy of Development in Egypt will be offered in the summer of 2009.

 

This short course combines an analysis of basic concepts in the political economy of development with the detailed study of a range of development initiatives and challenges in contemporary Egypt. Topics will include:

  • gender and development;
  • challenges of urbanization;
  • agricultural development;
  • desert development; and the
  • political economy of tourism.

Students will be onsite in Egypt for three weeks, with two weeks in Cairo and one week in rural Upper Egypt, with a range of lectures, site visits, preliminary readings, short writing assignments, and a final paper upon their return to the United States.
